Our Norway trip ended in Kristiansund, which we had chosen as our winter quarters for 2025/26. We had already passed by on our way north in summer and liked the town. During our first visit we were able to see that the harbour is well sheltered. And a look at the climate data also showed that this is a very comfortable place to stay.
The offer from the sailing club came so quickly and the harbourmaster was so friendly that we accepted straight away.

Winter must-haves for life on board
This is how you get through winter on board: our must-haves for warmth and comfort on the sailing boat.
🧭 Where exactly?

⚓ Why Kristiansund is suitable as a winter berth
Kristiansund is very well suited as a winter berth. Not least because of the mild winter temperatures for this latitude, which are usually only slightly below freezing, and the low humidity. From December to February we did not even need to use our dehumidifier and still only had a maximum of 50% humidity on the boat.

Pros
- The service facilities are good and close to the berth.
- There is a water tap that is open even in winter not far from the guest berths. When it stays cold for a long time, the water in the hose freezes. You then need your own hose of around 30 metres to take on water.
- Electricity is included as a flat rate in the mooring fee.
- The mooring fee is inexpensive.
- The harbour is very well sheltered and thanks to the Gulf Stream the water is ice-free.
- Even though it is small, the town offers many ways to pass the time.
Cons
- Unfortunately, there is no direct connection to the rail network. However, by taking the bus and then changing to the train you can get from here to Oslo in around eight hours. Or you can fly from Kristiansund Airport; there are several direct flights per day to Bergen or Oslo.
💶 Berth costs
- Power connection and consumption: 85 € per month flat rate for boats in use (half of that if the boat is not used regularly)
- Berth 135 € per month for 11 m
