๐Ÿ“ Favourite place: Kristiansund

On our Norway trip we stopped in Kristiansund in June. We really liked the town, so prettily spread across five small islands. And we also liked its tiny outpost, the enchanting island of Grip, which belongs to the town and lies a few miles off the coast. We also spent the winter 2025/26 here.

๐Ÿงญ Where exactly?

โš“ Why we love this place

Kristiansund is a small town in the province of Mรธre og Romsdal with around 18,000 inhabitants. What we loved right from the start was the location, which makes it something a bit special. Four islands belong to the urban area. A small ferry runs between them every day except Sunday and thus connects the entire town. This great service can be used free of charge. And even though the town is rather small and densely populated by Norwegian standards, it offers plenty of opportunities for walks in the green.

โ›ต For those arriving with their own boat

Kranaskjรฆret (063ยฐ 07.055′ N / 007ยฐ 43.989′ E)

  • Easily accessible and large guest harbour with numerous floating pontoons right in the centre
  • Amenities building with toilets, showers and washing machines/tumble dryers
  • Well protected from wind and swell

๐Ÿ๏ธ What you can do ashore

  • Sightseeing and shopping on foot and with the free ferry
  • Hike up Kvarnberget (with a lovely view of the coast) or, for more ambitious hikers, up Freikollen
  • For bad-weather days: indoor swimming pool or ice rink, both close to the harbour

๐Ÿ’ก Extra tip

A few miles north of Kristiansund lies the small island of Grip. There is a ferry there (in the summer months) as well as a single (!) guest berth for boats. The latter has become a bit long in the tooth and is only suitable for small boats.
